Adapted from Barathu - Starfinder Wiki
Last month Paizo released their first play test document for Starfinder 2e. The first taste of what is to come from this exciting game setting is the first few levels of the Soldier class, supported by a few pieces of setting-appropriate equipment and a few monsters at the end to allow playtesters to run encounters against. Nestled in with these new rules elements, developers included notes on approaching this rules update.
I am not content simply playing a few encounter variants, and I can’t wait to play campaigns in a science fantasy setting supported by the game design innovations from PF 2e. I will use the context clues from the Field Test document to convert elements into my derivative setting for a west marches campaign.
Dreamer Barathu
You have communed with the cosmic melody of Hrefna, and it has changed you. You struggle to express the fragments of memory and sensation you recall from the experience, except through singing and other similar psychic emanations. Choose one cantrip from the occult spell list. By weaving magic into your song, you can cast this spell as an occult innate spell at will. A cantrip is heightened to a spell rank equal to half your level rounded up. Your magic is adaptable, and you can channel your music to enhance it. Once per day, you can meditate on your cosmic song to change the cantrip you have chosen to a different cantrip from the occult spell list. This is a 10-minute activity that has the concentrate trait.
Dreamer Adventure Hooks
The Collective's Hidden Agenda: The Dreamer's commune maintains hidden agendas, seeking power or influence beyond their stated goals. The Dreamer could uncover this and has to decide whether to expose it, join it, or stop it.
Ancient Secrets and Forbidden Rituals: There might be a secret, ancient Barathu ritual or tradition that grants extraordinary abilities or knowledge at a significant cost. The Dreamer could discover this and is tempted by the power, but also wary of the cost.
Forbidden Biotechnological Advancements: A hidden group of Barathu could be experimenting with forbidden biotechnological advancements, potentially creating dangerous or unethical creations. The Dreamer could stumble upon this and has to decide whether to expose it or try to control it.
The Deeper Connection: The Barathu's connection to the Dreamers of Hrefna might run deeper than they publicly acknowledge, involving shared psychic abilities or a hidden history. The Dreamer could learn about this and seek to understand this connection and their place in it.
The Shadowy Puppeteer: A powerful Barathu entity or collective could be manipulating events from the shadows, influencing the Confluence or other factions for its own purposes. The Dreamer could become aware of this and tries to expose the manipulation and stop them.
Dreaming Acolyte Devotee 2
Acolytes of the Torrent tend to be Barathu that have visited Hrefna and were converted to the cult of the storm. They have learned the secrets of drawing magic from the elemental chaos.

Dreaming Acolytes in the Starfall Galaxy
Dreaming acolytes could be encountered by player characters in a number of ways. As they are devotees of the religion of The Torrent, they may be encountered in temples or shrines to this deity. They could also be found in locations relevant to their backstory hooks; since some of these hooks involve hidden agendas and forbidden practices, they may be encountered in concealed locations while performing secret rituals or conducting illicit experiments.
The acolytes' skills and abilities also suggest how they may interact with PCs. Their high ranks in Diplomacy and Religion could make them ideal for facilitating interactions between the PCs and the church of The Torrent, or they could use their knowledge of Arcana and Occultism to assist in investigating magical phenomena.
Given that they are armed with a laser pistol and spear and have access to divine and domain spells, dreaming acolytes could also serve as allies or antagonists in combat encounters.
