Need that Spark? Electrician

Source Player Core pg. 94

You know better than most the power of electricity, having survived several close calls yourself, and you know firsthand how shocking it can be when something goes wrong. Whether you learned by installing power stations or repairing broken circuits, you're familiar with the positives and negatives of electricity.

Choose two attribute boosts. One must be to Constitution or Intelligence, and one is a free attribute boost.

You're trained in the Crafting skill and the Physical Science Lore skill. You gain the Electrical Engineer skill feat.

Here are a few adventure hooks designed to appeal to an Electrician character, leveraging their skills in Crafting, Physical Science Lore, and their innate understanding of electricity within the Starfall Galaxy:

  • The Gridlock Anomaly: A bustling space station or a critical planetary city is experiencing inexplicable power fluctuations. Lights flicker, automated systems glitch, and vital life support functions are sporadically failing. The cause is unknown, and local technicians are baffled. The Electrician is called in to diagnose the problem, which could range from a malfunctioning ancient power conduit, a parasitic energy entity feeding on the grid, or a saboteur attempting to destabilize the system. Their expertise in electrical engineering and physical science lore will be crucial to tracing the source, repairing the damage, and potentially re-routing power through unstable, improvised connections.

  • Derelict Dreadnought's Heart: A long-lost battleship, rumored to be powered by experimental and highly volatile energy cores, has been discovered adrift in a treacherous asteroid field. While salvage crews are eager to claim its valuable components, none have been able to safely access its core systems due to unpredictable electrical surges and automated defense protocols. The Electrician is hired to infiltrate the derelict, bypass its failing security, and either stabilize or safely extract the power core before it detonates, taking the entire sector with it. This could involve complex Crafting checks to jury-rig bypasses, Physical Science Lore to understand the alien power systems, and quick thinking to avoid deadly electrical traps.

  • Rift-Powered Relic: Whispers circulate about an ancient alien artifact, powered by a contained fragment of Rift-energy, that has been unearthed on a remote, unstable world. This relic is said to have incredible capabilities, but its power source is highly erratic and dangerous. Various factions (perhaps the Resurgent Synthetics seeking to integrate it, or the Khi'Myr Bio-Commune hoping to understand its biological implications) are vying for control. The Electrician is tasked with either safely deactivating the artifact, reverse-engineering its power source, or weaponizing it for a specific faction. This adventure would heavily feature the Electrician's understanding of energy, potentially requiring them to interface directly with raw, unstable Rift-energy.

The Chronologist's Conundrum: A vital Metronome, one of the colossal temporal engines that broadcast the Standard Cycle across the galaxy, is slowly drifting out of sync, causing temporal distortions in a nearby system. This could lead to catastrophic logistical failures and social breakdown. The Electrician is part of a team sent to perform a "Physical Adjustment" on the Metronome. This will require intricate manipulation of gargantuan, shimmering conduits, temporal regulators, and sub-quantum oscillating arrays. Their electrical engineering skills will be paramount in recalibrating the ancient machinery and restoring temporal stability.
