Soldier Fighting Style: The Art of Violence

The Soldier Fighting Style is the subclass choice made at 1st level, defining how the Soldier applies their overwhelming firepower or durability. It grants specific benefits that interact with the Suppressing Fire feature and specialized weapon traits.

Fighting Style Feature

As a soldier, you train using a specific style of fighting. Your style determines how you approach combat and often changes how you take advantage of your ability to suppress targets. Choose a soldier fighting style. The fighting styles presented in this book are as follows.

Action Hero: Specializes in automatic weapons (machine guns, rotolasers).

Armor Storm: Specializes in durability and heavy armor.

Bombard: Specializes in area-of-effect (explode/blast) weapons.

Close Quarters: Specializes in melee combat (switching the class role to a melee tank).

Erudite Warrior: Specializes in tactical leadership and intelligence.

Societal Impact

The Fighting Styles have created subcultures within the mercenary guilds. "Armor Storms" often mock "Action Heroes" as cowards who hide behind range, while "Bombards" are universally feared as collateral damage liabilities. In The Commission, insurance premiums for property damage are explicitly tripled if a "Bombard" style Soldier is on the payroll. Conversely, "Close Quarters" specialists are highly valued for boarding actions on starships where hull breaches (caused by stray gunfire) are fatal.

A Soldier's Style is their signature. It defines not just how they fight, but how they solve problems: with volume, with durability, with explosives, or with brute force. In Starfall, the question isn't "can you fight?", but "what kind of ruin do you leave behind?"
