Dermal Spikes Feat 1

Spiky protrusions jut from your body, which you can use to wound your attackers. Your Fortitude DC against Athletics checks to Grapple or Shove you increases by 1. Additionally, you gain the Piercing Spikes reaction.


Piercing Spikes
[reaction] Trigger You become grabbed by a creature; Effect You twist and thrash your body around, dealing 1d4 plus your Strength modifier piercing damage to the triggering creature. This damage increases by 1d4 at 5th level and every four levels thereafter.

Adventuring With Dermal Spikes

  • The Arena Fighter: A local arena values fighters with unusual abilities. Due to their unique offensive and defensive capabilities, the character with Dermal Spikes could be recruited or even captured and forced to fight. The adventure could involve fighting for freedom, uncovering corruption in the arena, or rising through the ranks.

  • The Bodyguard Detail: Someone hires the character to act as a bodyguard. Their Dermal Spikes could be a deterrent and a valuable defense. The adventure could involve protecting the client from assassins, navigating political intrigue, or surviving wilderness expeditions.

  • The Escape Artist: A prison break requires someone who can resist being grabbed and deal damage while restrained. The character's increased Fortitude DC and Piercing Spikes make them perfect for the job. The adventure might involve planning the escape, navigating the prison, and dealing with guards.

The Research Subject: A scientist or organization is interested in studying unusual genetic traits. The character with Dermal Spikes could be lured or captured for experimentation. The adventure could involve escaping the facility, uncovering the organization's motives, and potentially finding others with similar traits.
