Adapted from Starfinder 2e Playtest,
One of the defining characteristics of Barathu is how they manipulate their density to float instead of stand. On their homeworld, the species uses internal gas bladders to act as ballasts and propels itself by pushing air out of another set of gas bladders.
After contact with other species some Barathu adapted a set of more traditional limbs that grant them less distracting ways to achieve locomotion.
Adaptable Limbs Feat 1
You grow sturdy lower limbs that allow you to walk on land. Increase your Speed to 20 feet. Additionally, you gain the Adaptive Locomotion action.
Adaptive Locomotion
[one-action] Frequency once per hour;
Effect: You transform your limbs into either flippers or hooked pseudopods to better traverse the surrounding environment. If you select flippers, you gain a swim Speed of 20 feet. If you choose hooked pseudopods, you gain a climb Speed of 20 feet. This transformation lasts for 10 minutes.
Adventuring With Adaptable Limbs
Exploring Diverse Environments: The Barathu could be hired or volunteer to explore regions with varied terrains. Their ability to adapt to land, water, and climbing environments would make them ideal for surveying uncharted areas or searching for resources in hard-to-reach locations.
Rescue Missions: The Barathu could be involved in rescue operations in areas where their adaptable locomotion would be a significant advantage. This could involve saving people stranded in flooded areas, scaling cliffs, or navigating dense jungles.
Diplomatic Missions: The Barathu could act as an envoy to species with unique or challenging environments, using their adaptability to bridge cultural and physical barriers. They could negotiate trade agreements or alliances in places where other species struggle to travel.
