Void Scavenger Feat 1
Living with the bare necessities isn’t terribly hard for someone who has defied death or persisted through cosmic devastation. When you Subsist during downtime, the DC for your skill check is reduced by 2. You don’t need a minimum proficiency rank to Subsist in unusual environments, nor do you take a –5 penalty if you Subsist after 8 hours or less of exploration.
Adventure Hooks Across the Void
The "Void Scavenger" feat makes a character uniquely suited for survival and resourcefulness in the most unforgiving corners of the Starfall Galaxy. These hooks emphasize their resilience and ability to thrive where others would fail.
1. The Deep Void Reclamation
The Hook: A massive derelict fleet, a remnant from a pre-Cataclysm war, has drifted into a volatile nebula. Valuable pre-Cataclysm tech and materials are rumored to be aboard, but the nebula is highly corrosive, filled with micro-meteors, and nearly impossible to navigate without highly specialized (and expensive) gear. Standard rations quickly spoil due to strange energy fluctuations.
Why it Appeals to the PC: The PC's ability to Subsist with reduced DC and in unusual environments makes them the ideal candidate to lead scavenging operations in this hazardous zone. Their resilience allows the party to stay longer and go deeper into dangerous wrecks, finding caches of supplies or critical components that others might miss. The adventure could involve a race against rival scavengers or uncovering a forgotten, still-active weapon from the war.
2. The Scarred Research Outpost
The Hook: An old research outpost, once dedicated to studying the Rift, has gone silent on a planet still heavily scarred by its chaotic energies. Rumors suggest the researchers unearthed something profound, but also something dangerous. A faction hires the party to retrieve the research data. The environment is constantly shifting, with localized temporal distortions, strange flora, and pockets of raw Rift-Mana.
Why it Appeals to the PC: This hook directly leverages the PC's "Rift-Hardened" trait, allowing them to endure conditions that would be lethal to unadapted individuals. Their ability to Subsist without proficiency penalties becomes crucial in finding sustenance in the mutated landscape. The core of the adventure lies in surviving the unpredictable environment and piecing together what truly happened at the outpost, possibly encountering entities warped by the Rift.
3. The Forgotten Colony Seed
The Hook: Old star charts hint at a "colony seed" buried deep within an uncharted asteroid. This seed is theorized to contain a complete, self-sustaining ecosystem designed for extreme environments. However, the asteroid is barren, devoid of atmosphere, and constantly bombarded by cosmic radiation. Initial exploration attempts by other groups have failed due to rapid resource depletion and an inability to establish a sustainable base.
Why it Appeals to the PC: The PC's exceptional survival skills are paramount. They are uniquely positioned to spearhead the initial exploration and activation of the colony seed, potentially allowing the party to set up a foothold where no one else could. The challenge involves managing dwindling resources, weathering cosmic hazards, and potentially fending off hostile alien lifeforms that have adapted to this harsh asteroid, all while trying to uncover the secrets of the long-lost colony.
