Suli: The Harmonizers of Cosmic Elements in Starfall

In the Starfall Galaxy, where the raw energies of the cosmos manifest in countless forms—from the searing heat of nebulae to the crushing gravity of black holes, the swirling currents of gas giants, and the unyielding core of planets—some individuals embody a harmonious mixture of these fundamental forces. These are the Sulis, cosmic elemental scions who often descend from ancient Cosmic Wanderers or unique Aether-Dragons that embody multiple elemental aspects. Their very being is a testament to the dynamic interplay of the universe's raw power.

At birth, a Suli resembles their mortal ancestry, not manifesting their otherworldly heritage until adolescence, when they awaken into their elemental power. Strong in body and will, Sulis are dynamic and ever-changing, and most feel they embody either all the cosmic elements together at once or the traits of different elements at different times. Some see themselves as having multiple aspects or faces to their personalities—one for each elemental force—that they cycle through over the course of days or weeks.

YOU MIGHT...

  • Relate your personal identity with the mixture of cosmic elements within you, believing you have sides that befit each fundamental force.

  • Work to harmonize or broker peace and understanding in the world around you, seeking balance amidst chaos.

  • Be prone to bragging, both about your own accomplishments and those of your family or allies, showcasing your unique power.

OTHERS PROBABLY...

  • Rely on you for your elemental abilities and expertise, especially in volatile environments.

  • Think you must be descended from a powerful Cosmic Wanderer or a multi-elemental Aether-Dragon, if they recognize your heritage at all.

  • Assume your position at the nexus of opposing elements means you are a neutral diplomat, capable of bridging divides.

Physical Description

Of all cosmic elemental scions, Sulis most closely resemble their mortal ancestries, and many could be easily mistaken for a non-Suli. As children, they appear wholly mortal; a Suli's otherworldly characteristics only begin to develop when they awaken into their power in adulthood, which some refer to as a second cosmic puberty. Most adult Sulis have eyes that glow with a supernatural light or shift color depending on the element they are attuned to at that moment. Adult Sulis are also prone to asymmetry, where physical traits manifest only on one side of their bodies, such as developing heterochromia, beauty marks, or freckles on one side of the face but not the other, or vitiligo on half of the body. Their skin often takes on a Bronze sheen after their awakening, as well, reflecting their elemental composition.

Most Sulis choose utilitarian clothes, expressing themselves through jewelry that highlights their glowing eyes or metallic skin, or with tattoos that symbolize their life's journey and their connection to the cosmic elements.

Society

Most Sulis can conform to the societies they're born into. They tend to be highly social and gravitate toward jobs or societal roles where they will be seen by or interact with the public, whether working in bustling starport restaurants or performing on a grand stage. Sulis often prize fame and recognition, wanting themselves or the people close to them to be known and remembered, and many take up artistic hobbies like songwriting, poetry, or painting to memorialize people and places they hold dear, often with an elemental flair.

Some Suli try to seek out their immortal ancestors, but the nomadic Cosmic Wanderers rarely invite Sulis to live among them. Instead, they encourage Sulis to enter mortal societies, with the hope of influencing the galaxy from within and ending oppression or chaotic imbalance. Many Sulis become drawn into cosmic conflicts; some do so to impress their immortal ancestors, but most simply abhor injustice and imbalance.

Beliefs

Most Sulis are intense but adaptable people, valuing inner strength and truth over conformity or peace, often respecting others for living their personal truths more than for sharing common values. Sulis usually have a neutral component to their alignment; true neutral is the most common alignment among them, with lawful neutral, chaotic neutral, neutral good, and neutral evil suiting most other Sulis.

Sulis are typically only religious if raised in a religious society, but those who heavily invest in their faiths or become clerics tend to follow cosmic entities or philosophies of duality, such as the balance of the Aether Synapse and the Rift, the gods of creation and alchemy, or concepts of travel and exploration. A philosophy that identifies with the process of artistic creation, seeing themselves as a beautiful whole made of disparate parts, is also popular among Sulis.

Popular Edicts: Seek balance, embrace your multifaceted nature, express your inner truth.

Popular Anathema: Allow one element to dominate completely, suppress your individuality, cause unnecessary imbalance.

Here are a few adventure hooks tailored to appeal specifically to a Suli player character, leveraging their intrinsic connection to multiple cosmic elements, their dynamic nature, and their drive for balance and harmony within the Starfall Galaxy.

Adventure Hooks for Suli Player Characters

1. The Elemental Core of the Rogue Planetoid

Hook: A newly discovered, rogue planetoid drifting through the Outer Sphere is exhibiting highly unstable elemental activity. Its core, instead of being a stable mix, is a chaotic maelstrom of raw, clashing elemental Mana – searing fire, crushing earth, swirling gases, and volatile liquids. This instability is causing unpredictable weather patterns, localized elemental surges, and even affecting the minds of nearby explorers, driving them to extreme emotional states. The Suli PC, whose own essence embodies a mixture of elements, feels an intense, almost painful resonance with this planetoid – a reflection of their own inner elemental balance being tested. A Geodan scientist, concerned about the planetoid's destructive potential, or an Ifrit drawn by the raw fire, seeks the PC's unique ability to harmonize conflicting elemental forces. The mission: venture into the planetoid's volatile core, understand the source of the elemental discord (perhaps an ancient Aether-Dragon trapped within, or a Rift-Entity attempting to weaponize elemental Mana), and find a way to stabilize its core, a task that will require the Suli to master their own elemental powers to bring balance to a cosmic scale.

Suli Appeal: This hook directly challenges the Suli's core identity as a harmonizer of elements. The rogue planetoid is a magnified version of their own inner struggle for balance. It offers opportunities to utilize all their elemental resistances and offensive abilities, and to prove their capacity for mediation and control over powerful forces.

2. The Great Elemental Migration of the Cosmic Wanderers

Hook: A rare, galaxy-spanning migration of Cosmic Wanderers – ancient, multi-elemental entities who embody different aspects of the cosmos – has begun, but it's being disrupted. Instead of their usual harmonious passage, they are clashing violently, their elemental forms erupting in destructive battles that threaten to destabilize entire sectors. The Suli PC, especially if they have a Cosmic Wanderer's Kin lineage, feels a deep, almost spiritual distress from this conflict, sensing the disharmony among their ancestral kin. Investigations suggest a subtle, external influence is deliberately provoking the conflicts, perhaps a manipulative Changeling faction or a rogue A.I. Construct seeking to harvest their raw elemental energy. A Nephilim who senses the disruption in cosmic order, or an Ardande concerned about the collateral damage to nascent ecosystems, seeks the PC's diplomatic and elemental abilities. The mission: intercept the clashing Cosmic Wanderers, uncover the source of the manipulation, and act as a mediator to restore their harmonious migration, a task that will test the Suli's social skills, their ability to understand diverse elemental perspectives, and their power to quell elemental rage.

Suli Appeal: This hook appeals to the Suli's desire for harmony and their pride in their multifaceted heritage. It offers a chance to act as a diplomat and peacekeeper on a grand scale, using their understanding of multiple elemental forces to bridge divides. The personal connection to the Cosmic Wanderers would make the quest deeply significant.

3. The Grand Galactic Elemental Arts Festival

Hook: A prestigious "Grand Galactic Elemental Arts Festival" is being held on a vibrant, multi-climate world, bringing together artisans and performers who channel cosmic elemental energies into their creations. The festival features breathtaking displays of Mana-sculpted ice, gravity-defying earth architecture, living flame dancers, and sonic crystal orchestras. The Suli PC, with their love for artistry and their ability to embody multiple elements, is invited as a special guest or a competitor. However, a series of "accidents" are plaguing the festival – elemental displays are going haywire, sculptures are collapsing, and performances are turning dangerous, seemingly caused by a rival faction (perhaps a group of Ganzi who believe art should be purely chaotic, or a rigid Oread collective who despise unpredictable expression). The mission: uncover the saboteurs, protect the festival's integrity, and perhaps even participate in the grand finale, showcasing the Suli's mastery of elemental harmony and proving the beauty of balanced power in a high-stakes, artistic setting.

Suli Appeal: This hook leans into the Suli's cultural lore about art, dance, and elemental expression. It offers a fun, high-stakes scenario that is not purely combat-focused but still utilizes their elemental connection, adaptability, and social skills. The dramatic setting and the chance to showcase their unique talents would be highly appealing.
