Spell Check; Message

Message is standard-issue for Chronologist field teams operating under Guild silence protocols, where electromagnetic comms would alert hostile forces or destabilize nearby Metronomes.

Guild doctrine treats it as essential tradecraft: one agent scouts ahead, casts Message back to the squad leader, and the team repositions without ever breaking stealth or transmitting a signal that can be tracked.

Azure Archivists favor it for library operations—coordinating research teams across vast archives without disturbing the silence mandated in restricted data-vaults
Ebon Syndicate fixers use it for negotiations in hostile territory, whispering threats, offers, or exit strategies to each other while maintaining a poker face for the other side.

The spell's main limitation: it requires line-of-effect (though it bends around corners), and magical silence, thick walls, or lead shielding can block it.
It also doesn't transcend language barriers—you're transmitting sound, not meaning, so you and the target need a shared language.

Message is the spell that turns every caster into a walking comm unit—except one that can't be jammed, intercepted, or traced by station security. Navigators use it to coordinate silent breaches, Syndicate operatives whisper deals across crowded markets, and Chronologists relay time-sensitive intel without breaking radio silence.

The spell manifests as words you mouth silently, but instead of dissipating into air, they bend through space and arrive directly at the target's ear—as if you were standing right next to them, whispering. To observers, you look like you're muttering to yourself; the target hears you clearly, even through walls and around corners.

(One Action)

Range 120 feet Targets 1 creature

Duration see below

You mouth words quietly, but instead of coming out of your mouth, they're transferred directly to the ears of the target. While others can't hear your words any better than if you normally mouthed them, the target can hear your words as if they were standing next to you. The target can give a brief response as a reaction, or as a free action on their next turn if they wish, but they must be able to see you and be within range to do so. If they respond, their response is delivered directly to your ear, just like the original message.

Heightened (3rd) The spell's range increases to 500 feet.

Devotion and themes

  • Blue Devotion (primary): treats Message as precision communication, routing information through optimal channels.

  • White Devotion: uses it to coordinate teams and maintain order without alerting enemies.

  • Black Devotion: weaponizes it for deception, threats, and secret deals.

In Starfall play, Message is the difference between coordinating a silent ambush and shouting "GO GO GO!" over open comms while the enemy listens in. It's perfect for scouts, infiltrators, and any party that values stealth—just remember, you're transmitting whispers, not telepathy, so keep it short and speak a language your target understands.
