Magic Flavored Masterminds; Celestial Order

Adapted from Order of Leitbur- MTG Wiki

The rhythmic pace of war drums sets the pace of events unraveling on Cerdon.  The Mechanations of the Iron Alliance and their rival Transcendent Synod threaten to engulf Cerdon in global warfare. The five houses of the Pentavarate are all scrambling behind the scenes to cool rising tempers and maintain balance on Cerdon.

The Celestial Order represents White Magic among the houses of the Pentaverate. It takes responsibility for upholding the peace of Cerdon by steering the priesthoods of the world’s religions.

The Celestial Order Cult

Cult

The Celestial Order represents the soothing comfort of civilization and the peace achieved through respect for law and governance. This union of religious groups reinforces the institutions that hold society up by rooting out corruption and rebellion.

Society

Generally, the Celestial Order has retreated from public awareness, interacting with the uninitiated public only through the institutions they support. Initiated members are embedded across the strata of Cerdon’s societies, often acting as inspectors, observers, or Advisors. Typically these agents are discouraged from intervening unless interventions are deemed necessary.

Political leaders and heads of industry typically have Celestial advisors assigned to them who monitor the governments of Cerdon for corruption and encourage the furtherance of peaceful commerce among the people of Cerdon.

Celestial Warding

Tatoo

Certain members of the order are Anointed in a warding ceremony; these members are placed in the center of a circle, and clergy of the order pray over the ritual circle. As they do, the golden script of Celestial Warding is inscribed on the being's arms and torso in a subdermal fashion. This process is both painful and transformative, and it marks the petitioner as one who the Celestials have chosen.

When Enchanted Beings are ascended, this gold etching is tuned to white mana, which disrupts magic that targets the enchanted being. This celestial warding also bonds the bearer to leylines of white mana, which grants them access to divine spellcraft.

Expressions of Divinity

An undercurrent of subspatial energy surrounding Cerdon infuses certain beings with fantastic power. Some on Cerdon interpret this infusion as an endorsement from the divine.

Aesir

Among the earliest settlements on Cerdon, a few individuals emerged associated with significant aspects of culture or the environment. Their association with these foci of veneration brought them to the attention of higher powers. Mana was bonded to their biology, making them representative community deities. Over the millennia after, these ascended deities have faded into the background of the modern world. They emerge at times to demonstrate their power in support of the societies they helped shepherd.

Angels

Angels are sentient mana constructs usually composed of white mana. Much of Cerdon recognizes Angels as sentient beings, but some religious organizations hold angels in bonds of service.

Key Features

Multiplanar Organization

The Celestial Order has encountered extraplanar beings and sponsors provisional extraplanar expeditions. As the faction that maintains peace on Cerdon, they are wary of the potential for destabilizing forces entering their world from other planes. They may believe that multiplanar travel should be restricted to worthy and prepared people. Through multiplanar expeditions, The Order has been able to connect with several Aesir and integrate their followers into their sponsorship.

Gates of the Saints

A combination of natural occurrence and engineering resulted in a group of stabilized multiplanar gates forming under the celestial Order’s control. The gates are known as the Gates of the Saints. These gates are massive structures made of a strange, otherworldly material. They are guarded by powerful creatures that the Order has sworn to protect. Only those who are deemed worthy by the Order are allowed to pass through the gates. The Order believes that multiplanar travel is dangerous and disruptive, and they only allow it for those they believe can handle the risks involved.

Adventurer Hooks

  • The party is tasked with escorting a group of Aesir pilgrims through the Gates of the Saints to a meeting on the other side.

  • The party is sent to investigate reports of a cult that is attempting to open the Gates of the Saints without permission.

  • The Celestial Order hires the party to track down a rogue angel who has been using their powers for personal gain.

  • The party is given the opportunity to become a member of the Celestial Order.
