Access: Chronologists Guild

Bulk: L

Usage: Held in one hand

This meticulously tuned and shielded device is the fundamental tool for any Chronologist Guild member. Resembling a sleek, metallic rod with a small, glowing display, the Pulse Rule's sole function is to precisely mark the passage of 16.6 minutes. While seemingly simple, its advanced chronal dampeners and Rift-sensitive components allow it to maintain this precise temporal rhythm even within the most chaotic temporal anomalies.

Effect: When tuning a Metronome, a Chronologist must possess and skillfully apply a Pulse Rule. Without one, the intricate and delicate temporal manipulations required for tuning are impossible. The Pulse Rule provides the necessary temporal anchor and feedback to safely interact with the Metronome's energies.

A Pulse Rule enables the Check Tempo activity.

Check Tempo

Exploration

Requirements: You must be trained in Chronologist Lore and be holding a Pulse Rule.

Duration: At least 16.6 minutes (one pulse).

You measure metronome tones against your Pulse Rule to interpret the temporal flow of your surroundings. This allows you to detect subtle chronal disruptions and test the accuracy of Metronomes.

Effect: After at least 16.6 minutes of concentration, you can attempt a DC 15 Perception check.

Critical Success: You determine if any detectable Metronome is accurately keeping time, or if there is a chronal disruption between your current location and that Metronome. Additionally, you pinpoint the exact direction and estimated distance of any creatures, effects, or objects with the Extradimensional, Void, or Temporal traits within a 10-mile radius.

Success: You determine if any Detectable Metronome is accurately keeping time. Additionally, you pinpoint the exact direction of any creatures, effects, or objects with the Extradimensional, Void, or Temporal traits within a 10-mile radius.

Failure: You fail to assess the temporal flow accurately. You do not gain any information about Metronomes, chronal disruptions, or the direction of temporal entities.

Critical Failure: You erroneously determine if any Detectable Metronome is accurately keeping time. Additionally, you misinterpret a particular creature, effect, or object as possessing the Extradimensional, Void, or Temporal trait.
