Even those with no particular standing among the Chronologists Guild can request a professional consultation. In any major urban center, a few credits and a formal request gain a short audience with a licensed time-adjunct, records archivist, or data-magi. For the Guild, it is a matter of professional reputation: one must occasionally acquiesce to help the curious, if only to nudge fate’s clockwork forward.
A “boon” is a repeatable, mechanical benefit earned through faction interaction. The Chronologists Guild, in keeping with their reputation as impartial keepers of cosmic order and time, offers Professional Consult as their Ignored/Neutral-tier boon. This benefit enables Starfall Galaxy characters to tap into guild expertise for research, troubleshooting, or solving obscure mysteries—just enough to help, but not enough to grant privileged access.
Professional Consult Boon
Faction: Chronologists Guild (This Boon can be purchased multiple times with separate factions; each faction employs its own experts for the consultation)
Reputation Tier: Ignored (-4 to 4 Favor)
Cost: 2 Favor
Frequency: Once per Mission
You gain a brief but meaningful audience with a Chronologists Guild adjutant, archivist, or consultant at any guild-sanctioned office, public chronicle, or temporal research station. You may present one question, case file, or scientific/magical anomaly related to time, cosmic anomalies, or recorded history.
Make a skill check (GM’s choice, typically Society, Occultism, or relevant Lore) to explain your case (DC set by GM per local conditions).
Critical Success: The Guild’s consultant goes the extra mile: gaining unique insight, an immediate minor mechanical advantage (e.g., circumstance bonus to a knowledge check), or fast-tracked paperwork or access to a public archive.
Success: you gain one of the following: Access to a relevant obscure fact, historical clue, or document; Hints for resolving a time-based paradox or anomaly encountered in the current story; Introduction to a junior specialist, helpful for basic research (does not grant membership or deeper secrets).
Failure: the consult is perfunctory and yields no mechanical benefit (your time and credits are still spent).
Critical Failure: the Guild registers your case as eccentric, bizarre, or a waste of time—the PCs suffer a -1 Circumstance Penalty on social interactions with the Guild for the duration of the Mission.
Special: Professional Consult does not grant access to restricted records, dangerous technologies, or non-public Guild knowledge. Repeated use without earning a higher reputation may attract scrutiny.
Professional Consult is a basic but essential guild service—bridging the gap between Starfall’s secret societies and the everyday adventurer. Use it for research, narrative support, or as a lever to build deeper relations with the timekeepers of the galaxy.
