Can't Keep a Mutant Down, Maxwell Jordan

Adapted From- Jab's Quill; Echos of the Multiverse; Maxwell Jordan- Marvel Database

Jumping off of granting one of my PCs Porcupine powers. I encountered  Maxwell Jordan, an X-Student code-named Quill. Jordan was among the Students of X-Academy. These students represented a revival of Xavier’s Institute after Xorn demolished it. One of the few students to keep their mutation after the decimation event, Quill was killed in a Purifier’s assault on the institute.

The X-Men are likely the source of the character resurrection trope in comics; even before the Krakoan resurrection protocols, X-Men didn’t stay dead. For a while, Quill seemed to be an exception to this trend. Johnson first appeared in the Spring of 2004 and was killed in the summer of 2006. By the Krakoan era, Quill had been dead longer than he was alive.

Before the fall of X, Quill was among those included in a massive resurrection effort that had effectively retconned the Decimation event.

The ever-optimistic Maxwell Jordan was among the first intake of students to attend the rebuilt Xavier Institute and was placed on the Corsairs Squad mentored by co-headmaster Cyclops. An average student as a result of his unofficial status as "class clown," Quill got busted trying to steal test answers from the headmaster’s office, but he was caught by Kitty Pryde, who then assigned him and his accomplices to be mentored by Gambit, but instead of making them see the error of their way, he taught the boys some real thieving techniques. This inspired Jordan to become a professional thief, though whether this was just youthful folly has yet to be determined.

Interacting with Quill

  • If the player characters are heroes or students at the Xavier Institute, Quill could be a valuable ally. He could use his powers to help them fight villains or overcome obstacles. His optimistic and humorous personality could also provide some comic relief.

  • If the player characters are not affiliated with the X-Men, Quill could still interact with them, perhaps as a source of information or as someone who needs their help. His thieving skills also come in handy.

  • If the player characters are villains or enemies of the X-Men, Quill could be a formidable opponent. His powers make him dangerous in combat, and his knowledge of the Xavier Institute could give him an advantage.

  • Quill's insecurities and self-consciousness could make him a complex and interesting character with which to interact. Player characters could help him overcome his doubts and become a more confident hero.
