Living the Unlife, Slab

Adapted From- Echos of the Multiverse Dalkon’s Solomon Grundy, Cyrus Gold- DC Database

Mutants and Masterminds does not use hitpoints. In determining physical damage, these rules simulate whether or not an attack can damage the target.  Combat attrition occurs by the accumulation of negative conditions instead of draining away a “life” resource. Theoretically, any target could be “one-shot” into the unconscious or dying condition.  This should reduce sloggy combats; imposing the wounded condition several times to brute force victory can prove unreliable. While a party of superheroes can easily overpower waves of mooks, when they run into supervillains the art of the encounter lies in overcoming their abilities and shaping conditions into their favor.

The Slab is an unbreakable character, and attacking his toughness through physical attacks should be the least desirable approach. This should encourage players to attack his mobility or will. This plays into the secret sauce of superpowered combat; mechanics take killing obstacles off the table and make players think creatively about other ways to win the day.

Slab Character 10

Slab, once the formidable mob enforcer Salvatore Cabarretti, is now an imposing figure of death and vengeance. His hulking form, amplified by the strange energies that reanimated him, is a grotesque tapestry of decaying flesh and unnatural power. His skin, a pallid grey, stretches taut over bulging muscles that ripple with unholy strength. Empty sockets stare out from a skull-like face, devoid of emotion save for a lingering hint of malevolence.

Despite his monstrous appearance, Slab moves with surprising agility and speed, a chilling contrast to his lumbering gait. His presence is a haunting reminder of the power of the arcane and the unsettling consequences of tampering with forces beyond mortal understanding.

Driven by a primal urge for revenge and bound by a mysterious force, Slab is a relentless instrument of destruction. He is a terrifying reminder that some deaths are not meant to be final, and some graves are better left undisturbed.
